Of course you can spend time in <a title=\"central park\" href=\"http:\/\/www.centralparknyc.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Central Park<\/strong><\/a> or head out to the<a title=\"brooklyn\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bbg.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong> Brooklyn<\/strong><\/a> or <strong><a title=\"queens\" href=\"http:\/\/www.queensbotanical.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Queens<\/a>\u00a0 <\/strong>Botanical Gardens, but to have a full out green experience, challenge yourself to \u201ccreate no waste\u201d on all of your excursions. This means you\u2019ll be heading out with a water <em>bottle you can refill<\/em> <em>(there are 3114 public drinking fountains and there\u2019s an app to find them) and<\/em> a reusable shopping bag expandable &amp; lightweight (such as <a title=\"ecobags\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ecobags.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>ECOBAGS<\/strong><\/a>), so you can say \u201cno\u201d to all types of single-use plastic or paper bags.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Here are a few things I love to do in NYC that are as green as you get:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3660\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3660\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3660\" title=\"The-Cloisters-300x165\" src=\"https:\/\/thedowntownproject.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/The-Cloisters-300x165.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"165\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3660\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Cloisters<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>New York is a <strong>walking town<\/strong> and what could be greener? Pick a neighborhood you\u2019ve never been in, like <a title=\"wash heights\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washington-heights.us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Washington Heights<\/strong><\/a> and walk around. Check out the <a title=\"cloisters\" href=\"http:\/\/www.metmuseum.org\/visit\/visit-the-cloisters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Cloisters<\/strong><\/a> while you\u2019re there and marvel at the views of the Hudson River.\u00a0 You can take the subway (A Train) north to start your exploration. But, if you\u2019re in more of a \u201cdowntown\u201d mood, don\u2019t feel like walking but really want the Hudson views, <a title=\"biking\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bikeandroll.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>rent a bike<\/strong><\/a>, and ride off-road on the west side Greenway\u00a0 down to Battery Park.\u00a0 If you still have steam, you can turn around and ride all the way north to the upper west side. It\u2019s a super easy ride (totally flat).\u00a0 Check out the amazing Hudson River sunsets along any of the piers, if you\u2019re still riding toward dusk.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3680\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3680\" style=\"width: 224px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3680\" title=\"IMG_2203\" src=\"https:\/\/thedowntownproject.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/IMG_2203-224x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3680\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chelsea Market<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>While you\u2019re biking or walking all over the city, you\u2019re going to get hungry and thirsty. There are lots of <strong>Farm To Table Options, <\/strong>like <a title=\"cleaver and co\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cleaverco.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Cleaver Company<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0at\u00a0 the <a title=\"chelsea\" href=\"http:\/\/www.chelseamarket.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Chelsea Market<\/strong><\/a> or Farmers Markets.\u00a0 Skip \u201ctake-away cups and plates. Sit down and eat!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-3659\" title=\"housing-works-logo\" src=\"https:\/\/thedowntownproject.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/housing-works-logo.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"262\" height=\"73\" \/>Feel like you need to do some shopping and get some NYC style on? Tap into the RECYCLE part of the three R\u2019s. <a title=\"housing\" href=\"http:\/\/www.housingworks.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Housing Works<\/strong><\/a> is the best thrift store in NYC and there are locations everywhere. You\u2019ll find everything from clothes to lamps, books and furniture. The curated selection is amazing. Housing Works supports people living with HIV-AIDS.
