Celebrity Autobiography

NY – It’s never easy to plan a night out with friends when you’ve got a big group, but we discovered a perfect night on the town that’s ideal for both a GNO or a bunch of fun couples.

Cafe Tallulah for Dinner
1. Cafe Tallulah for Dinner

1. You don’t need to head downtown to get the cool downtown bistro vibe for dinner anymore!  Just check out Cafe Tallulah on the UWS. Whether you’re hanging out at the 50 foot zinc bar (the longest zinc bar in NYC) with girlfriends or enjoying a quiet date night with the hubby, this spot just works for any occasion!  The food is an interesting combo of classic french bistro (think moules and steak frites) and Mediterranean (some of the best pan roasted Branzino we’ve ever had), so there’s something for everyone and on weekends check out the cocktail lounge and pool table downstairs!

Celebrity Autobiography
2. Celebrity Autobiography – Sherry Shepherd, Rachel Dratch, Debbie Harry and Mario Cantone

2. Celebrity Autobiography takes place at the intimate Triad Theater.  The rotating cast features a potpourri of comedic performers reading from the actual memoirs of well-known celebrities. Past big name performers who’ve taken part in the readings include: Matthew Broderick, Kristen Wiig, Ryan Reynolds, Megan Mullally, Will Farrell, Brooke Shields, Tate Donovan and numerous SNL members, especially Rachel Dratch.  Note: their website doesn’t always  announce the full cast for any particular show in advance, so it can be a surprise as to who exactly is going to show up, which can only add to the evening’s excitement.   Excerpts range from the “poetry” of Suzanne Somers to the mostly shocking “romance tips” from Tommy Lee to the most famous Hollywood love triangle in history—Elizabeth Taylor, Debbie Reynolds, and Eddie Fisher.  The best thing about the whole show is that the readings are all true (from real autobiographies) and incredible proof that the really good stuff, you just can’t make up.  Expect a two drink minimum and to laugh till it hurts.  For a schedule of upcoming shows, click here.

3. Finish off the night at Shalel Lounge, a romantic and sexy little spot that’s so exclusive it doesn’t even have a website or Facebook page**!  So, consider yourself “in the know” as you walk down the rose petaled staircase that leads to a candlelit maze of underground grottos. The small rooms seat anywhere from 2-12 people and provide plenty of nooks and crannies for small talk, privacy or simply taking your romantic evening to the next level — depending on who you’re with, of course.  The exotic Moroccan food makes perfect sense in this subterranean spot and the meze plates are the ideal post show snack.
